Deception Island is a performance by and with Synne Elve Enoksen. The solo takes its name from the isolated Deception Island, situated in the Antarctica. Deception Island is a remote, desolate and abandoned place, once long ago used for whaling industry. The island’s name points towards it's misleading appearance, and the uncovering of a hidden landscape. In this work, Enoksen uses an island as an analogy for choreography. The solo is an attempt to combine topology and movement, in other words; an investigation of dance as a landscape, in a landscape. The moving body builds, map out and leans into a terrain, the dance; an Atlas in constant becoming and dissolving.
She sat in the room is a choreographic triptych composed of three female solos. Medusa is Laughing by Tessa Hall, Deception Island by Synne Elve Enoksen and For you / Not for you by Solène Wachter.
The first solo works with the progression of a dance and a text until their exhaustion, the second explores the idea of dance as cartography where movement is a constantly changing landscape, and the third deals with duality, image manipulation and addressing the audience. Three individual solos, juxtaposed to each other. Three women who carry the intimacy of their work with common hands.
